5 Apps to Help You Win Black Friday
At long last, it’s that time of year again. Time to wake up at 1am after eating your body weight in stuffing and make your way to one of the big-name department stores, where you will camp out, visit pleasantly with the people around you and then do your best to annihilate them when the doors open. In an effort to keep the mayhem and carnage at a reasonable level this year, here are 5 apps to help you get through Black Friday successfully, without spilling blood.
Mobile Parking App

The Mobile Parking App is available for Chicago, San Francisco, San Diego, Seattle, and Los Angeles so far, with more cities coming soon. Search local parking garages to find the best rates, all meters, zones and rates locations. Turn on the parking-meter timer, which will alert you when your parking meter is going to expire. It also provides turn-by-turn directions back to your car, and public transportation schedules for those who can’t bear the thought of driving.
Point Inside

Navigating malls is a nuisance on the best of days, but when fighting thousands of other shoppers the last thing you want is to get lost. Point Inside has interior maps of hundreds of malls across the U.S. Find the exact store you need and the shortest route to it. (The latest version of this now has interior maps of airports as well, making this a great all-around holiday app.)
Black Friday Apps
There are quite a few apps being released that have been specifically designed for Black Friday. There’s not much difference in what they do, but here are a couple of the ones we feel would come in the most useful.

Black Friday App (iPhone/Android)– Last year this was voted best Black Friday App, and the website claims that it can be used to find deals all year long.

Black Friday.fm (iPhone/Android)– The feature that sets this app apart is its news screen, which updates regularly with deals. It also allows you to create a shopping list and search by store.

TGI Black Friday (iPhone/Android) – This is one of our favorites because, along with showing the most popular deals and latest ads, it also organizes the deals by category and store. There is also a favorites list that you can build, and the ability to email items to friends, for dividing and conquering.

ShopSavvy (iPhone/Android/WP7)
Use your phone to scan the barcodes of products, then compare the price of that same item at stores near you and online - so you’ll know if that spectacular Black Friday deal is really so great. For those of you with iPhones, the always-popular Red Laser is an equally good option and does all the same things that ShopSavvy will do.
And the best (also known as shameless self-promotion) for last! Not sure if that Bluetooth Headset is really worth the fiver? Just send the make and model to us and we’ll send back a recommendation derived from all the information at our disposal.
