Could be a Good Time to Buy a Blu-ray Player

This could potentially be a good season for Blu-ray players with some selling for well under $200. One deal we expect to see on Black Friday is for the Sony BDP-S360 which Walmart has already offered for $148. It’s a well reviewed, Profile 2.0 (BD-Live) player and $150 is a very good price. The only hitch is you can buy it anytime you want right now on Amazon for $151. Speaking of Profile 2.0, avoid deals on Profile 1.5 players that don’t support Internet connectivity. We’ve also seen the Samsung BD-P1600 Blu-ray player for $149. On the surface it looks good with Netflix and Pandora streaming but the reviews are very mixed with lots of complaints about reliability.

Blu-ray Player

Even though the underlying concept of Blu-ray and HD-DVD are the same, the way they are implemented is slightly different, resulting in two incompatible formats (remember VHS vs BETA). However, Blu-ray is the only one still in use.

Sony S-550 Blu-ray player

I waited two years before deciding on a player. The 550 has a great remote control and the
560 has the crummy one. The 550 has great reviews on Amazon vs the 560. If you have need for wi-fi connectivity than go with the 560.
Sony's latest model, don't recall model number off-hand also has a mediocre remote according to a Sony tech I spoke with recently.
I purchased the 550 on Ebay for $200. and it works great. I called Sony and purchased a two
year extended warranty. I also signed up for an online account with Sony and they will be mailing
me a software update via a cd. I am too lazy to use the ethernet connection to download.
