iPhone Owners. Up-Close & Personal.
As one of the most publicized gadgets in recent history, it’s no surprise that Apple’s iPhone has won over the hearts & minds of many a smart-phone owner. But who are the iPhone users really? What makes them tick? In a recent Gadgetology study Retervo set out to learn the answer to these and other questions. The result; a snapshot profile of a typical iPhone owner.
Gadgets VS a Bored Education
Retrevo asked, "What makes a person most attractive to you?" iPhone owners prefered cool gadgets over a college degree three to one.
Breaking Up Is Not Hard To Do

One in three iPhone owners has texted or emailed their significant other to break up.

Retrevo Asked: Have you ever texted or emailed someone to break up with them?

Out With The Old (gadgets that is)

One in three iPhone owners say that, if their partner had out-of-date gadgets, it would be a turnoff.

Retrevo Asked: If a potential romantic partner had out-of-date gadgets (a non-smartphone, an ancient computer, etc), would that be a turn off?

iPr0n. You Know, for Adults.

One in five iPhone owners admits to frequently watching “adult material” on their iPhones. (Twice as many as BlackBerry owners).

Time Waits for No Gadget User
One in four iPhone users has broken up with their partner because that person spent too much time on their mobile device.

Retrevo Asked: Have you broken off a romantic relationship because the other person spent too much time with their mobile device?

iAm Your Everything

Compared with other cell phone users, iPhone owners are more likely to see themselves as media buffs, extroverts, and intellectuals.

About the Gadgetology Report

Retrevo's Gadgetology report is an ongoing study of people and electronics from the consumer electronics shopping site Retrevo.com. The data for this report came from a study of online individuals (non-Retrevo users), conducted by an independent panel. The respondents for this survey came from iPhone owners in Retrevo's recent iPhone Vs. BlackBerry Study.

LOL

Are these supposed to be the results of a real study or is it just a joke? Because the flaws in reasoning seem so laughably obvious =D
Since I've got nothing better to do at 2am on a thursday morning except sleep, let's run through these real quick yea?

1. "iPhone owners prefered cool gadgets over a college degree three to one."
In my experience, the majority of iphone users are male... also in my experience, most males couldn't give two $hits whether a chick possesses a degree or not (results from MY study here of course ;-). Anyway, if you asked football fans who they would find more attractive between a college graduate and a girl (or dude) who loves sports, who do you think they would choose? Exactly. Retrevo is basically stating that iphone owners like cool gadgets. Duh.

2. "One in three iPhone owners has texted or emailed their significant other to break up."
One has to ask: when did the respondents claim they did this? And did they all do it with their iphones? Is it any surprise that people who have used text messaging in the past for ANY reason now use the iphone? I wonder what this statistic would be for other cell phone users? One must also admit that what Retrevo is saying here is that 75% of iPhone users have never texted a breakup!

3. "One in three iPhone owners say that, if their partner had out-of-date gadgets, it would be a turnoff."
This one is somewhat related to #1 above. What I am hearing out of these two "results" is that although 75% of iphone users find gadget lovers more attractive than non-gadget lovers toting college degrees (again, duh!), only 25% of iphone users actually consider it a turnoff when someone is using a dusty ol' piece of crapware. Coming from a demographic that loves shiny, new, state-of-the-art gear... that ain't so bad. Also, I wouldn't be at all surprised if these people are a subset of the group from #1.

4. "One in five iPhone owners admits to frequently watching “adult material” on their iPhones. (Twice as many as BlackBerry owners)."
I dunno what exactly constitutes "frequently". But if a pornoholic were to buy a smartphone he might as well get the one with the best web browser + a hundred different boobie apps available for it wouldn't you say? In a sea of men, I can believe that 25% or more of them would be pornoholics. Besides, the iphone is basically a computer in your pocket (no that's not just me getting excited)... how many of you watch pr0n regularly on your PC? I shouldn't even have to point out that surfing for pr0n on a standard cell phone is nearly impossible... ahem, not that I've tried. Blackberry browsers suck.

5. "One in four iPhone users has broken up with their partner because that person spent too much time on their mobile device."
*Sigh*... it's always something isn't it?
'You spend too much time with your friends'
'You spend too much time at work'
'You spend too much time sleeping'
'You spend too much timing on the computer writing stupid comments on random websites'
I think we get the idea. Moving on...

6. "Compared with other cell phone users, iPhone owners are more likely to see themselves as media buffs, extroverts, and intellectuals."
"Media buffs"... sure, considering the iphone is arguably the most media rich and capable smartphone on the planet I suppose that's plausible. But in this day and age--when the average consumer agonizes over the pros and cons of going with Monster cables or standard cables to connect their 52" 1080p LCD TV and upscaling DVD player--who doesn't consider themselves a media buff? "Buff", mind you, can simply mean you're really interested in something whereas, say, "expert" means you're really knowledgeable about it.
"Extroverts"? I dunno about this one. Considering smartphone users tend to be regarded as head-down-two-handed-txt'ers-during-social-gatherings type people I find this a little hard to swallow. Maybe they're in denial.
"Intellectuals"... Most people probably would not go so far as to openly call themselves 'intellectuals'. But on a private, anonymous survey or in front of our bathroom mirror we can be anybody we want ;-)

So, all that being said, why does it seem like iphone users are being ripped on here? Seems to be a fad these days. IMHO, due to the near ubiquity of iphones coupled with negative sentiment from anti-apple fanboys (does that make sense?), many non-iphone users who want the same functionality are allowing their bitter emotions to cloud their judgement about the iPhone which has repeatedly and unanimously been hailed as the king of all smartphones.
For the record, I am not an apple fanboy nor do I own any apple product except for the iphone. I have quite an aversion to hyper-popularization mysef but I must give credit where credit is due and debunk propaganda where I can.

Uh, maybe I'm retarded or

Uh, maybe I'm retarded or something, but the last time I checked, 1/3 is not 25%, and 2/3 is not 75%. At least, that is according to my TI-30.

Oops!

Nice catch, you got me there! Change all 25's to 33's and all 75's to 66's... this was written late at night/early morning mind you so I must've set my mind to "1 in 4" somehow and just ran with it (o_O)

Thank you. Nice point of

Thank you. Nice point of view!

And regarding statistics...Churchill!

I call bullshit.

1 in 3 iPhone users has broken up with someone via text or email?

With somewhere near 40 million iPhones sold, that's northward of 13 million people who have broken up that way? Uh...no way.

hmmm...maybe even more than

hmmm...maybe even more than 13 million. You know, it's so nice ditching people using the iPhone that one can become addicted to it.

*facepalm*

It's the number of those _surveyed_.
Statistically that's how it extrapolates out, but think about the kind of people that fill out surveys.
Also, why would you call BS on that, of all things?
Did _you_ take a survey? Do you know the means of breakups for millions of people? If so, why? GET OUT OF MY MIND!!!

It right, but Many people

It right, but Many people use iPhone interest buy iphone direct sale.
