A Stylish Video Recorder from FLIP Team and Other Cool Gadgets
We hope many of you spent July 4th weekend “offline” while snapping lots of photos of good times on your smartphones. Here at Retrevo we were busy scouting the latest gadget and came up with this list of cool new stuff:
Lytro Light Field Camera Grabs Light Waves
A company using technology that was partially developed at Stanford by Ren Ng the new head of Lytro promises to add new capabilities to photography and other imaging processes. It’s centered around light field technology that captures light coming from different directions onto a single image sensor using a microlens placed in front of the sensor. In demonstrations, Lytro is able to move the focal point after a picture has been taken. No word yet on commercialization but it looks pretty cool to us.
New MacBook Air
Laptops Coming Soon

With Mac OSX Lion golden masters starting to appear and word of inventory shrinking on store shelves it looks like rumors of new MacBooks might be true. Word is the new MacBook Air laptops will be powered by Intel’s new Sandy Bridge multi-core processors, include the new speedy (10Gbps) serial port called Thunderbolt, faster solid solid state memory drives (SSDs) and of course the new Lion OSX. The new notebooks are expected to launch on July 14th.
New Sony VAIO Z is Thinner and Lighter than MacBook Air
When the new MacBook Air laptops arrive this month Sony will have a slightly higher priced but more slender laptop called the Vaio Z. The 13inch laptop is powered by a Sandy Bridge Core i7 processor and is made of light and rugged carbon fiber. Like the rumored MacBook Air, the Vaio Z has Thunderbolt connectivity that is used to connect to an optional external dock. Unfortunately it doesn’t look like you can use the Thunderbolt port for connecting to other standard Thunderbolt devices at the moment (the few that there are). No word on when the new Sony laptop will make it to the States. Right now you can preorder one in the UK for around $1800 (US)

New Sony Camcorder Has Built-in Pico Projector
A new Sony Handycam called the HDR-PJ50 will project HD videos up to 60-inches in size in a wall or screen. The camcorder records HD video to a 220GB hard drive. It’s currently on sale in India for around $1,350.

Before the New
iPods Show Up…
With a rumored iPod refresh expected early this fall it might be a good time to grab one of these stylish iPod Nano wrist bands. It’s from Incase, made of steel and costs around $50.
From Some of the Designers of the FLIP Camera
ZionEyez, says their CTO had a hand in designing the FLIP camera and has applied his expertise to a micro video recorder placed inside a pair of reasonably good looking sunglasses. The Eyez glasses/camera records 720p video with high quality audio to 8GB of built-in memory. You can transfer recordings via Bluetooth or Micro USB. You can pre-order a pair for an introductory price of $149.99.
