April 16, 2008
Sunnyvale, Calif.Retrevo Inc., the first matching service for people and electronics, is on a tear. Just weeks after closing $8 million in a second round of institutional funding, the company has brought in former Lycos executive, Alka Gupta to run business development, and started the Retrevo advisory board with charter members Bruce Berkoff, chairman of the globally recognized LCD TV Association, and Stanford professor Banny Banerjee, world renowned design and user experience guru.

“The economy may be in shambles but consumers are researching and using electronics products more than ever,” said Vipin Jain, president and CEO of Retrevo. “Consumers want the best product their dollar can buy and they want to get the most out of the products they already own. Retrevo is the only company that meets these needs and covers the entire consumer and product relationship lifecycle.”

Retrevo lets consumers shop by real-time product value and provides consumers with answers to help them use their products better, Jain added. “We are experiencing significant business expansion and growth, so getting the likes of Alka, Bruce, and Banny onboard is critical to taking our company to the next level and establishing Retrevo as the category leader,” he said.

In her new role as Vice President of Business Development, Gupta will spearhead revenue–generating deals and strategic partner relationships for Retrevo.

“Because Retrevo is meeting real, mainstream consumer needs, the new business opportunities for partners to engage with their target audiences are truly unique,” said Gupta, who as vice president of Corporate Development played a pivotal role in growing Lycos’ presence in 42 countries and 116 million unique visitors to the websites. “This kind of opportunity doesn’t come around often. That’s why I’m here.”

Meanwhile, Berkoff, the former global chief marketing officer for LG.Philips LCD, and Banerjee, now director of Stanford University’s Joint Program in Design, will focus on helping Retrevo forge new relationships with consumer electronics manufacturers worldwide and making Retrevo’s website even more engaging for first time and regularly returning users of all ages.

“Retrevo has a big vision: it wants to change the way people shop for and use electronic products, and is off to an amazing start by creating a totally new interaction paradigm,” said Banerjee, who previously worked for leading design company IDEO and Xerox PARC. “Their Value Map is very cool. Our challenge now is to take this experience to the next level across people’s entire product lifecycle, while making it more useful, engaging and entertaining.”

Added Berkoff: “Consumer electronics is a big and growing category, and yet, no one before Retrevo really innovated in a meaningful way to provide a complete experience for everyday electronics consumers. I think Retrevo is a killer combination of a big market opportunity and solid management team, and I’m pleased to have the chance to help them accelerate the momentum they’ve generated in the past year.”
