Since we wanted something basic, but a camcorder that would give us very good quality images, we counted on the Canon...We highly suggest purchasing an extra battery, and the battery charger (stick with the Canon brand or you can be burned with the cheaper "replacement" claiming to be as good...That would not be so bad if the R- RW would work in any of our PC's or DVD players...
I bought the CanonDC310 because of the zoom ratio and quickness to focus on scenes without a lot of contrast...I like the Quick Start feature, too, since you never know when one of the 8 grandchildren is going to do something you want on video...picture quality is ok seen better but love the sleek look and dvd ready program......

Great picture and sound quality...I did check other websites to compare price and buying options and HSN came out on top, in terms of the extras added in like the bag,(a good one I must say) and the mini disc which you would have to purchase separately if needed...We absolutely love our Canon Camcorder!!!
