On a few relatively rare occasions the route was so bad I had to get out my paper Atlas or even stop to ask directions.I learned early on to pay close attention to road signs and not to trust the voice prompts or the turn arrows blindly...When we ran the same routing test as we did with S&T 2006, the route recommended seemed less direct, and the map database didn't know about a recently completed ramp...

For the money, I would recommend the Garmin 18...I find I have to double check its left verses right recommendation against the actual map which has yet to be wrong...Once it locks on it is very good at tracking movement, although even the 2006 version of the maps seems out of date...
after a lot of research i would recommend this over microsoft version because for the microsoft version requires the passenger to navigate for the driver...Overall I am pleased with the unit...It maynot be as good as a inbulit car unit I travel occasionally and didn't want to invest in $450-$600 range...
About the Software What I like For very simple trips, it seems to work just fine...Just got this GPS with the 2006 Street Atlas USA software AND Topo USA...Talks to you and tells you when to turn, comes with antenna does not update itself, you have to go to the web site I purchased and liked, it is easy to use and gets you where you are going...
