Default setting were all set to flat, so you have to tweak it to suit your tonal preferences, but that's a good thing...First, the neon blue light that circles the power button is a bit too bright...thus distracting from your overall vision that should be focused on the TV...The HDMI output upconversion was also good...
About the only bad is maybe on HDMI input to run a HD SAT reciever through it...I wanted an all-in-one system that looks good, sound great and plays DVDs well...I bought this home theater system from Crutchfield--not Amazon (because although Amazon is my overall favorite online store, the bad experience I had with a television purchase has made me vow to never buy another big-ticket item from Amazon...
I also recommend using an optical cable (not included) for audio output from the TV to the unit when listening to TV broadcasts through the S-301...Being a 2.1 system the surround sound effect may not be quite as good as true 5.1 systems, however I often feel as if sounds are coming from behind me and I did not have to deal with the difficulties of running all that speaker wire...A better...
