The EpsonPerfection2450 Photo scanner tries to be a jack of all trades...The 2450 has can be connected to either a Firewire or USB2 connector although it will happily work on a USB 1 connection if needed...The 2450 can perform 48bit scans at up to 2400 x 4800dpi...Because of the USB 2 or Firewire interfaces, scan times are very good indeed even on quite large photos...

I've been using my EpsonPerfection2450 Photo for well over a year now, and it has worked flawlessly...So overall I don't think you can beat this scanner for the money, even with it's USB 2.0 flaw...After weeks of wrestling appear to have solved the problem by switching from U null The idea of this unit is good and on occasion in certain modes things work well...
Not too happy with SilverFast though (bad UI and unstable...I have a 2.2GHz P4, 1GB memory, and when I tried to scan a large photo at 1600dpi, about 500MB of memory was used (good thing TWAIN displays how much mem is needed prior to the scan...But I wanted an affordable multi-purpose scanner that could produce good QUALITY scans of transparencies LARGER than 35mm...
