Maybe I?m missing something, but I really don?t get the point of the Epson R-D1...35mm rangefinder cameras still have their fans, and several models are still made, including the Voigtlander-Cosina.Bessa R2S upon which the R-D1 is based...On a film rangefinder camera the mechanical shutter means that you can still take a picture with dead batteries, but of course...

Good magnesium alloy build and good sensor (similar to that housed in the Nikon D70 D-SLR); accepts Leica M and L mount lenses (the latter via an adapter)...Menus are little on the slow side, totally manual control may not be to everyone?s liking....The R-D1 uses a combination of full manual controls gleaned from the camera?s adapted and jointly-developed-with-Epson Cosina/Voigtlander...
