After searching the net I heard the Optima was just as good as a Dyson...Main strengths are it's attractive price (55$), low weight, ergonomic design and good suction power...Cheap, Small, Initially Powerful, Good for Basic Tasks LOUD, Loses Suction, Bad on Hard Flooring, Pain to Maintain This little machine has guts, and I loved it to pieces for the first year of ownership...

It does a very good job on bare floors...Its performance on carpet is at least as good as other uprights I have owned although it does sometimes require a couple of passes to pickup all debris...Obviously I can not speak to the long term durability for this model but I would think that the general good durability of Eureka would hold true for this model as well...
