The DRT800 includes a DVD-R/-RW recorder, a progressive-scan DVD player, and an 80-gigabyte hard drive that uses the TiVo Series2 interface...You can't use the DRT800 until it's done?not even as a basic DVD player...If I were reviewing the DRT800 as a standalone DVD player, it would score high performance marks...
This is an "80 hour" unit, which really means 80 hours at the "Basic" quality level, which is pretty poor (might be useable for news shows, stuff like Charlie Rose, etc., but it's not good enough for anything with much movement...Above that is "Medium" quality which gives about 55 hours recording time, and is also pretty bad...EXCELLENT interface, both for watching/recording TV shows, and for burning...

Th its a good product i found the audio setings to change to dolby digital and dts less than great video quality when compared to straight cable vs...I'd recommend the Tivo to anybody...Thanks Cnet for your recommendations and ratings of this product because that's what helped me make my decision...
Overall, I have found the HumaxDRT800 to be a great value, especially if you watch a lot of TV and wish to revisit shows frequently...I don't believe the video quality of the Humax DRT-800 is quite as good as a standard Series2 Tivo, esp...In general, I do not recommend anything less than "high quality...
