Sony's been pioneering the consumer market for high-definition camcorders in the UK, and it's adding further momentum with the second-generation HDR-SR8E - its new flagship hard disk AVCHD camcorder...A separate roller controls manual focus - not as good as a lens ring, but close...The HDR-SR8E isn't perfect, but it's very good in lots of areas...
Beautiful HD video...Massive storage....Could do with a video light....Sony's latest sets a new standard for HD...But these are niggles so minor, we almost feel guilty making them about such a beautiful device...You'll also need a second battery if you want more than 95 minutes of recording......

In good lighting, such as bright sunlight, the SR8E's x.v.Color technology accentuates Sony's already excellent colour saturation...Sadly, although the higher pixel count of the SR8E's 3.2 Mpixel CMOS pays dividends for still images, it does have a slight drawback for video...When AVCHD first arrived, it was hard to recommend the format to anyone but incurable gadget lovers...
The SR8 is pretty much the same as the SR7 so you could get some good information on that review page...The video played full screen and was good, MUCH better than a regular camera's video, but NOT the quality I had expected...I did take a few more pictures while filming video, and they were not very good due to the lighting...
