Recording HDTV is fantastic and this model Sony provides just as good resolution as the originial broadcast...This allows you to watch a channel in HDTV or one in analog if that station has not yet gone digital or is not coming in because of bad weather...I even pick up a few duplicate stations from sistering areas.)
