I have an HD cable box as well and nothing else comparable in this screen size and price that I saw in the stores, besides the Samsung, looked nearly this good The Samsung is high quality as well, but it's blacks didn't look as BLACK as the Sony...BUT DVD's on a progressive dvd player still look great, just not as good as true HD, and that's not the TV's fault...Late nights...

the picture quality with non HD dropped a lot although i was looking at non-digital quality standard def so perhaps digital cable might still look good...If your buying this TV because it's cheap, I would recommend saving a few hundred more and stepping up a few notches...Sound is very good and speakers below rather than on side is a plus...
ease of use of on screen menu none (Edited April 20th by good shopper) just received the product and hurriedly set it up...However I recommend strongly and I wish I can buy this HDTV in previous times...It is lightweight, clear, has very good color and is a pleasure to view...
