I followed the purchase recommendations in the manual for blank media, and the recorder has worked well for me...The image it produces for my 1080i plasma when playing DVDs is outstanding-- as good and maybe better than a much more expensive unit from Bose...The picture quality is actually very good, perhaps because it has a digital tuner...
Overall I'm satisfied with this product...I recommend anyone considering the D-R5 read the reviews for that model as the two are essentially identical except for the HDMI interface...I paid $165 delivered, so the value for this unit is very good unless you need to have "plus" disk capabilities...
Great for transferring VHS tape and DVR shows to DVD...I looked into DR2 but bought DR5 from 6ave.com for $130 which I believe is a very good price...Lately, I am recording TV shows 6 weeks of 24 per DVD so that I can watch them later, Go to finalize just after editing and half way through says that I have a bad disk...
