I finally decided to go with the 400, and I love it...I am interested in those that have the 400 or 300 and how they best use them...

I am not operating in the same price range as you since I have used manual focus supertelephotos: Nikon 200/2 AI, Canon FD 300/2.8 L, Canon FD 400/2.8 L, and Nikon 400/2.8 ED AIS lenses...Cropping from 400 ISO images was not too bad, given that this is sharper than the 400/2.8...For many years I wanted to upgrade from a 200/2.8 and 2x converter to a 300/2.8.

To go along with that, I want a good telephoto lens...I am willing to spend about $400...1st be aware that with the 70-200mm f/4 you can then buy at a later date a 1.4X Teleconverter...then more power to you and you save $400.00...

so i finally got my 400 prime and had a chance to test it out today...i have taken many images using my 100-400 that i was blown away with the quality even under tough conditions...however, i do find the contrast of the 400 prime to be better...i have used my 100-400 for wildlife, small birds, portraits, landscape and motorsports and the lens just rocked at all of them...my

What I really need is a camera thats good indoors working with the flash taking pictures of the kids, and I want a nice compact one...I'm sure both cameras are very good - but it's not that simple deciding between these two...
