The story was good, but the picture quality varied...Borrowed from my school, I've used a Canon GL1 for two commercials here recently...But now I can say that it was SUCH a good decision...But with all this said, If you're comparing the GL1 to the DVX100a, I would say the DVX100a is a MUCH better option for srious short film creation...

I have a Canon GL1 mini DV with dv (4pin to a very thin sandwich connector)and av output from a minijack or 4 pin svideo...the gl1 is simply a matter of having an operator based cam set up on a tripod with which we can share more kids and folks at play away from the pc with greater range and quality...
