Linking Canon MV850i Camcorder to an Acer Travelmate 4050 laptop...I just bought a new canon camcorder model MV850i and am trying to download movies from the camcorder to my laptop (Acer Travelmate 4050) using the DV connection...when I switch the camcorder to card reader mode as oppose to tape mode and link via USB the laptop recognises it but this is only for images and is of no help...

A video capture card should carry either analog or DV in/out, to digitize the video onto your hard drive...Audio restoration and transfer to CD of LP's, 78, 45...I need help finding a way to transfer these video files from the tape to the computer so I can edit it with Windows Movie Maker, or some other movie editor...

Connecting it when it is in tape mode doesn't seem to do anything though...When the camera is set to card mode ubuntu detects it fine and I can copy the images across...Forgive my ignorance here, but is it possible to get at the video over the usb connection or does it require firewire...

Tall order and this is the ONLY one I could find that ticks all the boxes...Experts rate this product 72/100 and users 78/100...Sadly the first one delivered was faulty - lots of motor noise which, from what I read elsewhere, is a common problem with this model...
