I think that the only 28mm capable camera that gives the Canon a run for the money is the Panny FX33 or FX55 but as those won't be widely available for a couple more months it will be tough to make a choice right now...I just returned my Fuji F50 and bought the Canon SD870 instead...Probably because you didn't set the ISO limit to 400 and it took ISO 1600 shots...

I just realized that the TZ5 is around $300 and I am already pushing...What has been said or implied so far is I think a fairly good enough representation - for little carry-about compacts , I do feel you are very hard pushed to use any other that's better than one of the Canon in this range...they are both totally carryable , and give in nearly all conditions apart from really bad light...
