The DGS-2208 is an 8-port Gigabit unmanaged switch...Low-end switches are considered a commodity good, so it's rare to see a name-brand product drop below the usual price floor (last I noticed was May, and I had to take advantage of a Lightning Deal, MIR, and Amazon Prime to match this offer...If you're looking for a GCS (good cheap switch) this one will likely fit the bill...

It appears to switch off those ports which are not presently in use...Overall I am fairly happy with the switch and have been thinking about replacing it with another later revision...Data transfer speeds are very good (1Gb transfers in about 30 seconds) and for my application (home networking and LAN parties) the switch is a no-fuss solution...

Good switch for the price, IMO, but I would be careful with where you put it/what you put on top of it...I recommend people spend the couple extra dollars and get the Trendnet...Works fine and speeds are very good for home network (regularly transferring large files to/from Windows Home Server box...
