It sounds like the monitor went out...If it was a screen issue wouldnt the external moniter still work...It is common for Dell Laptops to have disfunctional FN keys...

The new 13.3-inch Vostro 1310 (starting at $749), 15.4-inch Vostro 1510 (starting at $599), and redesigned 17-inch Vostra 1710 (price, undisclosed) all feature a slot loading optical drive and thinner / lighter designs...The 1310 and 1510 are available today in EMEA (Europe, Middle East, and Africa) then May 1st for the Americas...I just finished my training on thse models...

As promised here is my review of my new Dell Vostro 1710 Laptop...The 1710 is fast enough and the screen is perfect...As good as the screen is, it still struggles a little outside...I do like the keyboard overall, the buttons are large enough, there are enough of them, and the separate keypad is something I do use...

I can see the screen content changing as I switch through the modes but they're all scrambled in the same way...Also it seems to commonly happen when the ripples of the visual bell reach the edge of the screen (though certainly not always...It started as happening only once a week or so but soon became a lot more frequent...

I just bought the Dell XPS 1710 because I wanted a laptop that had a DVI output so I could connect it to my Sceptre 42" LCD...He's having trouble driving his Scepter 42 (1080i) with this HTPC, using the DVI out that Dell brags will do blue-ray...The rigs I was looking at was at a discount dealer shipping them with Vista Business Ed...I was comparing "buy it now"...
