It's a good choice to hold out for the hd dvd war...I was a little apprehensive about upconversion but had heard good things about the abilities of the latest units with advanced conversion units like Faroudja...Overall, I would say that the low price of this upscaling player and the quality with which it handles 95% of pictures, outweighs it's deficiencies...

However, the Denon 1930CI player has many ways to get sound to that receiver...I had a 1930CI and absolutely love it...Also, no HD-DVD players will play SACD's and DVD-A's both, while the 1930 does an excellent job of it...If you are looking for a DVD player that will BEAUTIFULLY upscale standard DVD's, with superb audio processing and visual...
