Mapsource is also a nice software package for the 182...Bluechart chips are essential and I highly recommend them...All the navaids are there and the more you turn the details (in the 182 unit) up the more information is displayed...I have the 182 non-color unit and sunlight can be an issue, however, low light is easily taken care of with the backlit screen, just keep it low and...

The Garmin 182 has gotten great reviews from forum members...The 172's screen is slightly smaller, but the rest of the specs seem comparable to the 182...On my 182 there are three rows of data which uses up quite abit of the screen...The 182 doesn't allow one to select one data row...
