The detail of the maps is very good i was also worried when i seen it was a internal attena however it picks up 4 bars most the time it is 5 unless bad weather but never had a reception problem...I do recommend this , but as always don't put your life and lively hood on the line drivers with a piece of electronics...What good is a gps without the maps...

I just got the Nuvi 5000 a couple of months ago and have used it in my home city and on a recent vacation in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan and Northern Wisconsin...I am a loyal Garmin user and recommend them to people all the time...The 5000 has to be plugged in to use...With all GPS systems, I wish you could create an online account which would let you preselect option...

The new 4000 and 5000 series do not use the Network Port expander that the previous networkable Garmin units used...I am ecstatic this thread just got started since the 4000/5000 series is so new for all of us to learn...

There are two ways to power the 5000...If you look at the Nuvi 5000 product page on Garmin's site it should list an AC adaptor...There is a USB outlet on the back of the Nuvi 5000 which doesn't work for connecting it to the computer and has always been a mystery to me...The maps on the Nuvi 5000 look pretty much the same as they do on...

That just goes to show you how important it is to use your own eyes, in conjunction with what a plotter or chart is showing you...The problem was probably in the original chart that was scanned for the plotter, because all other orientation of objects was good...You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take...
