The contenders are the Harman Kardon avr-245, avr-145 and the vsx-816...The vsx-816 is about $280 (msrp $365), avr-145 (msrp $549) is $278.99 and the avr-245 (msrp $649 ) is about $380...I have read a couple of good reviews online and it seems to have decent sound quality...In addition, the automatic setup for the pioneer seems to be pretty good...

Rob, all the documents they send me, you have them already...It's possible that you're getting interference from something else or you may have a bad/unshielded cable...All pins were tested one by one...

Just to give you a little more details, in the manual they specify that the port on the AVR 145 is for sending data for futur upgrades only...The com port is dead because I burn it ( as stated previously, I bought a cable that was supposed straight thru and found out later it was a cross ) I made my own and test it but still no joy...BTW have you contacted HK too see if we can send command...
