I found later, that the same units worked flawlessly with Pioneer receivers...Of the 3 DVD players, the JVC 501BK has easily the best picture...It would intermittently emit a loud distorted popping sound, during transition periods from reverse/forward fast scan, to normal playback, in Dolby Digital mode...

This is overall a great player in terms of features, and the visual quality can be tuned to anyone's preference...Anything with a good amount of dats made this piece of garbage start locking up...All in all, not bad - but not tremendous...

Their customer service was great before they started making dvd players...This in no way excuses JVC for it bad customer service...I have been putting it through its paces with "Contact", a dvd which may have had a few bad batches...
