Ok, I pulled my befsr41 out of my closet, that I have never used to see if I could set up my home network...What really throws me is when I remove the Ethernet 3000 PPOE software and I go to winipcfg I get a weird ip 169.254.162.XXX...No DHCP server is on the network, bad cabling somewhere between the DHCP server and the computer in question, or the DHCP server can not give a valid IP address...

By reboot do you mean just flip the switch(for a min or two) or actually use the reset button to completely reset the routers settings...The way your modem is set up now, it handles PPPoE and routing functions...I have my settings perfect for my network on my linksys...

A month or two later, the HDD crashed...Sounds like to me you just had some bad configuration on your computer, not with the Linksys router like us cable modem users...

I have a Linksys BEFSR41 version 3...My question is, is it possible to flash to an older version of the firmware...There is feedback for 10 versions of BEFSR41 firmware...I recently tried the latest firmware for v.2 and had so many lost connection I had to revert to the previous version...
