LOWRANCE LCX-17M SUPPORT & TROUBLESHOOTING

I've been struggling with which transducer to get for my LCX-17M...I'm mostly concerned about a good clean picture, but don't wanted to spring for the tilted element (and drill the hole) if I don't need to...What's your recommendation, and what part numbers do I order...

The red and black wires I can figure out, but what do i do with the shield...A NMEA 2000 buss must be connected to a power source to operate...The power chord has 3 different sets of wires 1 is black red and white(external speaker) to battery 2 is black red and wire shield 3 blue,yellow, orange...

This unit is very very clean and works perfectly...Call Paul 408-781-5832 I can ship if needed but would rather hand it off in person...I live near the Delta but travel to the San Jose area 4 times a week so i can meet somewhere...
