Received the 1470 today and liked the larger screen area but there are too many bugs with the software driving the unit at this time...I took mine for a tour of the town today...I called Magellan today to ask if this unit came with the Spring 09 maps because the download information does not list the 1470 as a compatible unit...I am happy with my unit and got it for a steal, which...

The 1470 is the first GPS that I've owned so I have no comparisons to others...When trying to save current location that is on a route rather than a named street - it won't let me put in a number and saves the current location to the nearest town a few miles away...Regardless, I am wondering how good these units are...

The voice directions is female, clear, good volume...I would recommend this unit, but you must study the manual before using...I researched most brands and even Magellan models above and below the 1470...I love the speech, the reminders, the lane assist, the re-routing, the AAA features (which are free), the maps are up to date, and finally the overall ease of use...
