I also have a Meridian Platinum...In ExpertGPS under Edit then preferences then Click the settings tab when then box appears Connect via select file with the drop down tab and that should do it...if I can just get my Magellan Meridian Platinum to communicate with the Vista powered laptop...This appears to be a frustrating problem for some so I would lobby for a succinct trouble...

They sell instructional videos for a number of units...G7 is primarily for Garmins hence the G, but it will support limited information on download from Magellan GPS Receivers...You could then perhaps overlay this with a map of the area...
