On 4/26, a Marantz VP posted to acknowledge that there is a problem with the PMD660 mic pre-amp circuit, and to announce they have a mod to address it...Contact Marantz at 866-405-2154 to arrange to have your PMD660 serviced...I have a PMD660 and I've been meaning to call to figure out if they charge to fix their defectve product...If so I won't be a happy...

In a previous post, I was trying to figure out some equipment details for recording interviews...As you can tell from my subject line I'm looking at the Marantz PMD660 ($500) vs Fostex FR2 le ($600) for flash recorders...I'd like the get the cleanest sound possible for these interviews -- they will be part of a family history project (distributed on CD) and I'd like the quality...

But after a few years on the market, the PMD660 was starting to look a bit stale, especially after companies like Sony, M-Audio, Zoom, Edirol, and Olympus kept pushing out smaller, cheaper recorders...This recorder is the next generation of the PMD660...

I've used the 660 extensively with the Audio Technica AT835b short shotgun, and it works great without a dampener...I've used a friend's AT897, and that's the mic I'd buy now if I didn't already have the 835...I've also used a ME66 with the 660, and that is a much "hotter" mic...Anyone here have experience with the Marantz 660 with the Oade Mods...
