difference between D300 and 40D is the 2 extra MP's and the AF...D300 AF is 51 point AF with 15 x-type, 36 horizontal...500 is also warranted because the D300 actually has the lens microadjustment feature...

im saving up money, for nikon d300, but...is it worth paying 9k+/- for a d300...and etc, i heard some pro said that, there is not much diff D200 step to D300 unless u get a D3 FX...

All good shooters normally set WB for each shot separately, unless in emergency...Even my Minolta A200 has it, a lack of this feature in semi-pro D300 is not excusable...What pro's use and what camera producing companies think they should use and what kind of pros they target is 2 different things...

It's a pretty good camera for it's class, but I'm ready to move beyond it's limits...The only specific thing that I want to be sure I can take good pictures of is martial arts competitions...I had originally set my target budget at around $1500 and had been comparing the D80 to the 40D...I like the feel of all three, despite the fact that the D300 and 40D were noticeably heaver...
