For a little extra, it is probably worth going to Panasonics THX certified Viera 1080p plasmas instead...Not looking to win awards, but "good enough" and not too shabby...So basically we're talking a really good 50" 720 plasma (for most people a 720 50" is just fine) for around $1000 or less...

First off, I want to validate my review by saying I have seen some crazy good TV's- Some of the Sony's look as if the image is coming off the screen...Therefore, I would not recommend doing business with this company...There's an abundance of good reviews for this and I've been thrilled with it as well...

OOS Dell Panasonic 50" TC-P50X1 720p Plasma TV $616 after DPA & BingCB - Page 8 -...
They might know a thing or two better about viewing distances than YOU do, and they say the optimal viewing distance for a 50" screen is 5-7.5 feet...Or, if you don't like what THX has to say, the SMPTE MAXIMUM recommended distance for a 50" screen is 6.8 feet...But really my point was more in relation to the better-quality panels and processing found in the 1080p sets (which are necessarily more expensive)...
