I have read the review and looked at the sample pics of the S5i and they very much meet my needs...My concern is that I will miss the extra zoom if I go with the S5i...I notice on Pentax's website that they offer an underwater housing for the S5i and that makes me happy but I can't find it for sale anywhere...Basically, I am looking for someone to point me towards...

After a lot of navel gazing I decided on the Canon PowerShot SD300/IXUS 40 and was going to buy it today when I stumbled across this forum and saw Speaklightly's comments about her Pentax S5i...Despite its great looks and size and having some great features, I had reluctantly discounted the Pentax S5i because of a number of things gleaned from reviews i.e...takes good...

You can remedy that partially by setting the focus distance manually...I would never hesitate to buy it again...an excellent point-and-shoot camera...

Summary Overall I'm very happy with this ultra-compact camera...The one major gripe for me has been the lack of autofocus lamp, meaning I end up with out of focus photos in dim light...The battery life has been extremely good, especially considering it's small size...

after looking at samples it seems that the image quality of the Pentax S5i is sufficient for my needs...informed decision to buy a Optio S5i said nothing that would lead...reason that makes me hesitant is that most of the reviews I've read...
