I don't know about the amps quality but Pioneer has been making good HT receivers for 7+ years...They both decode DTS HD/Master and Dolby True HD...I know the Elite VSX-01 can decode dts hd/master hd and dolby true hd so that is useful if you have a bluray player...

No, you could not get a better receiver in that price range than the VSX-01...Then again, as a Pioneer fanboy, this might just be a biased opinion...I returned the vsx-01 for it and am much happier...

I have an extensive DVD collection, and have just began to pick up a few BD's to watch on the new 46" Sammy 550 series tv...I guess it wouldn't be so bad with a nice remote though......i have still been considering this choice...i really want to settle for the 1018 because i can always just buy a good upscaling dvd player...

All the speakers are older and are rebuilt 3-way and 2-way models from Advent and Optimus (nothing fancy at all...3 people added to this review by submitting or voting on pros and cons...I replaced a Kenwood that I purchased about 8 years ago so that i could go from Dolby Surround to all the new formats, like TrueHD and Dolby Digital...
