Well, I posted a review earlier discussing the NUMEROUS problems I have had with this product, saying that a local repair shop had it for two weeks and fixed it...When I asked the CS woman "How bad does a thing have to be broken before you'll send a replacement - does 7 out of the first 9 months count...

I bought this recorder at Sam's Club...The DRC8000N actually seemed to improve the quality when I transferred, especially with the older VHS tapes (I have one from 1982 that looked twice as good when I got it onto DVD...

I recommend copying your home movies onto DVD+RW...I have a 52 inch widescreen TV and have found the recorded picture quality very good even at 6 hour speed...

I've had my DRC8000N for about a year now...If another DRC8000N owner is out there who has figured this out, please e-mail me at mvpmail@localnet.com...Have had good luck with Maxell and TDK DVD+R media, although a malfunction will occur occasionally completely out of the blue...Just purchased a spindle of Verbatim on a recommendation, but have not tried them yet...

I mainly bought the RCA DRC8000N DVD Recorder to be able to convert my VHS video tapes to DVD (mostly baseball and hockey games...Seems like there were problems with Memorex DVD R (too bad since they're the cheapest...On a recommendation from someone who read this email and had the same RCA problems, I bought an "ILO" recorder at Wal-mart for $150 - it's easier...
