My cd player on this system is a good denon cd player (~$600) with decent cables...But when someone asks me to give an honest opinion to aid in his purchasing decision I wouldn't recommend the 2X higher priced Pass over the Proceed, at least not claiming better sound...So yes what you said does make sense and is essential, but given two similar priced receivers i would recommend the rotel...
Quite simply, the RSX-1057 is absolutely stunning...Personally, I would get the AVR-3807 (expected out around September) for an engaging home theatre experience...Come to think of it, I think the computer system actually does classify the RSX-1057 as a 7.1 receiver, IRC...Denon has always been good at keeping up with the latest technology...
I'm looking to replace my Denon AVR 3300, which starts giving me intermittent audio problems...I have auditioned both Rotel RSX1057 and RSP1068/RMP1071 connected to B&W 703...They sound good, much better than my Denon and BW speakers...I think Rotel1057 has better feature sets than Arcam, at a better price ($1300) than Arcam AVR 250 at $1600...
