I just set up the new Sony Progressive DVD player...I just picked up the ns700p as well and have not experienced the same problem...

If it's important I would steer you towards the similar but better options of the JVC XV-S65GD or the Panasonic DVD-RP56...Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think any Sony DVD players support MP3...If you were going to get a Sony regardless get the 700...

So it could be that your TV does not support progressive mode, hence the distorted picture with the component output...Sony DVP-NS700P - Audioholics Home Theater Forums...When I connect my DVD player to my TV with S-Video and set the DVD to Progressive, the picture is fine...
