Basically the new sony range that will be available june onwards have 100 hz technology instead of 50hz, which all lcds have appart from the new toshiba range...So, bascially what is so good about hdmi 1.3e (what has the 40W got?) and do you think the 100mhz will make that much of a difference...I take it the X will be renamed to HD, eg 46hd1080 as has been speculated...

Well the S3000 used to be called the S304...If you are looking for general purpose family stuff and just the odd aviation photo like you say, then it looks a reasonable choice...I believe it was replaced by the S7000 (at the same time the S304 was replaced by the S3000) so you could go for either...
