I decided to take the leap for the Z5U...I had narrowed down the search between the cannon XHA1 and the Sony Z5U and decided if I was going to spend $3000 for a camera I might as well drop another $1000 and go with the Sony...I bought a B + H 72 mm uv filter because I film so much in bright sunshine...The low light is so good on the z5 that you can video well enough before...

I bought a Sony HVR z5u about a month ago to get into the world of HD...Does anyone know if these two would be a good match for doing event video, weddings, funerals (believe it or not), poetry readings, etc...

Wanted a step up from PD-170 and we are looking seriously at the Sony HVR-Z5U...I have been using the Sony Z5U intermixed with Sony PD170 video for about a month now - maybe 3 shoots - at first the video did not intermix all that well then I found the PD picture profile which I beleive is meant to match the PD170...I do find the Z5U to be about 1/2 stop...

I am running Xpress Pro 5.6.7 on a Mac...Also, make sure your tapes are being recorded in a compatible format...SONY HVR-Z5U Capture Problem - Avid Community...
