Does anyone know what the small 4-pin socket immediately to the right of the earphone jack on the NWHD1 is used for...It would appear that it would be for an earphone connector that has in-line controls, but the earphones shipped with this model only have a simple stereo jack...I had an in-line control for my old Clie...do you know if Sony makes an in-line control for the NWHD1...

and I was futzing aroud with the NW-HD1, so I reach over to my buddy and grab his Ipod...The sony NW-HD1 lacks the look and feel of innovation...Sony could make the NW-HD1 an open format player just like the Ipod, but they don't, and there's many other small things they do that will limit how you can use their products...oh, and another...

This arguement seems a little pointless if you ask me...I believe that Sony HAVE made a mistake with the NW-HD1 using ATRAC...Anyway these are just my thoughts...

Sony plans to officially launch the NW-HD1 in January here...As far as audio quality concerned: The NW-HD1 sounds very clear, the soundstage ist wide enough...I guess I can't have it all - outstanding sound quality paired with huge bass and silky treble (Sony-like), good SNR and comfort...So perhaps it's only to some extent suitable to bass-heads, instead...
