It is true that you must use the 'Sonic Stage' software to transfer songs to the HD3, but this is not really a hinderance as it is pretty straight forward...HD3 can natively support mp3 and plays back atrac and atrac3plus, so any other format must be converted into atrac/atrac3plus...which didn't turn out to be as bad as I was bracing myself for...

Well, the Sony sure has the size advantage over some other micro DAP, and with a 20gig HD no less...The NW-HD3 looks like it's made well, which Sony does have a solid reputation for...The negative things are the SonicStage software and the ATRAC format but when the software controls the mp3s good and I can still rip in the format I like then maybe the Sony NW-HD3...

I've had the NW-HD3 for a few days now...So there you have it - almost everything sucks on the HD3, but it's redeeming quality is actually very redeeming...The nw-hd3 looks better than the ipod to me, its smaller, longer battery life, in atrac it can hold more music that the 40 gig ipod in...
