I'm currently looking at a used SonySTR-DA555ES receiver for US$400...And this may be a good reason to go the pronto route as I could probably find a CCF for it...I use the SonySTR-DA555ES in my bedroom...The Sony is a very nice receiver and even better as a pre-pro...
I too own a Sony 555ES receiver...I have read that most people just go into their local Electronics store with MX500 in hand, and find a non-2way Sony receiver remote and learn what they want with great success...Good luck, you have gotten alot further than I did, until I got an MX700...
When I activate the 5.1 (by pressing the 5.1 key on the receiver) it deactivates all the functions...I`m preparing this as a secondary audio system...I don`t know if the problem is in the receiver or the SACD and DVD-A player...

I would highy recommend this to anyone who feels they deserve to hear such wonderous and inspiring sounds from an electronic device...It took some getting used to at first and a few trips to the directions to find out how to use certain functions, but overall, I think the remote is really a great piece of work and won't trade it off...If your looking to for a good receiver at medium price than I suggest...
