I highly recommend this Toshiba DR5 DVD Recorder with any HDTV system...Copies are usually compressed so the quality isnt as good...I would recommend getting one that is in a cartridge, they sell both and this player actually accepts bare discs or cartridges Nice feature...

The up-converting feature is very good...I recommend any up conversion feature since the HD DVD war will take time to work itself out - remember the Beta versus VHS...

The unit does not have any noise reduction built-in, so if your TV doesn't do this it might not look quite as good...It requires a good bit of A/V smarts and general tech-ability to setup and use this device...
