I owned as S08 for nearly a year...The acoustic piano is not very good...The higher octaves had some bad sustain properties and sonically it was definitely a few notches down from the higher end Yamaha stuff...Yamaha always excels with those and the S08 was no exception...Many of the synth patches were good...

At first I was looking for a Kurzweil PC2X, but I early realised that I wouldn't found one...With a great sale on the S08 at only 10000 SEK ($1310) I think I've decided...As for the S08, it's not bad, but it was never all that impressive of a board to me either...

I do not have experience with Graded action versus the Balanced action of the S08 so I cannot speak to the difference there...Compared to other 88-key pro boards, this is about the cheapest you're going to find, and I am very happy with it...Looks good, and I agree the red felt is a nice touch...The S08 is equipped with Yamaha's original Balanced Hammer Effect (BH) keyboard-a...

The Yamaha S08 Performance Synth has the piano keyboard feel you're looking for...I just used a Yamaha S08 Performance Synth, that was purchased by the owners of a small Virgin Islands hotel for their restaurant...I was delighted when I saw their S08 with 88 touch sensitive keys...It looks like this synth really can do a lot and for a good price...
